NEW! Habitat box construction method
We are excited to introduce to you our non-Thermal Heat Transfer Construction Method for our habitat boxes – a game-changer in 4-season camper construction in South Africa!
After months of hard work and dedication, we’re thrilled to present what we believe to be a first-of-its-kind construction method in South Africa. Our new construction method ensures an unparalleled camping experience in all weather conditions, setting us apart from the rest.
The problems
Anyone with motorhomes will know the struggle in winter of having a cold, damp living space, as well as droplets of water running down the inside corners of your habitat in cold weather! Roof leaks are also problematic in some cases, water seems to find its way and enter via the aluminum extrusions over time.
The engineering science
The Thermal Bridging Effect – Moisture and or temperature is transferred from the outside of a habitat box via any “thermal bridging” which is an aluminum profile and/or aluminum section bridging the outside to the inside of the habitat. This problem occurs with construction methods that use panels that fit into corner aluminum extrusions and aluminum frames, sections, or braces within the panels.
Waterproofing: Bonded foam to foam construction method for corners and roofs to wall joints also have a far better waterproofing properties.
Aligning with top European expedition truck box builders, we now follow their proven box construction method in order to eliminate these problems.
European style panels
Our new panel process
The Big Difference in our new method :
– Thicker wall panels
– CNC cut panels
– No aluminum extrusions
55mm Thicker Wall Panels:
Thick, durable FRP ( Fiber reinforced Polymer ) skins with a PU (polyurethane ) foam fluted core.
To ensure structural strength, we use various foam strengths to construct a strong wall, e.g., high-strength PU foam is used on all join surfaces.
CNC Precision Cut Panels:
Wall panels are CNC precision cut to ensure a box of exact dimensions and a perfect fit. ( difficult to achieve with panel in extrusion systems )
Cutouts for the windows, doors, and hatches are also CNC cut to ensure perfect fitment.
No Aluminum Extrusions:
No aluminum extrusions are used to build the habitat box panels (ie extrusions are aluminum sections that allow wall panels slide into aluminum)
However, once the panels are securely bonded, aluminum is fitted to the inside and outside. However there is no “Bridge” of aluminum between the outside and inside. The outside aluminum is additionally seam welded insitu for added protection.
Our thicker 55mm panels are bonded together seamlessly, creating an incredibly strong and watertight camper structure. Say goodbye to chilly interiors in winter and sweltering heat in summer! Our overland vehicles provide the perfect 4-season habitat for year-round adventures.

Our Expertise
why build your motorhome with us?
From the smallest bolt to the largest bed, our motorhome boxes are designed with quality and durability in mind. Our experienced team is ready to help you plan the perfect motorhome for an African environment. We focus on essential features, ensuring your motorhome is light and built to withstand tough terrain, without unnecessary luxuries that could compromise its reliability after just one trip.
We provide proven electrical and plumbing systems capable of performing in this harsh African environment.
Our products are designed and chosen with quality and long term durability in mind. Using Marine quality fittings , hard wearing flooring, genuine leather upholstery, and durable interior finishes in our vehicles.
A home away from home that handles any African environment.
At Southern Africa Roadtrippers, our experience stems from building 4×4 motorhomes that were rented and driven in tough African conditions. We’re excited to introduce a first in South Africa—the “German” method for constructing expedition composite boxes. This technique eliminates thermal bridging, preventing dampness in winter, and offers better wall panel bonding, enhanced thermal insulation, and a stronger, water-resistant composite box. The result is a more comfortable, durable habitat that’s warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Our motorhome windows, doors and hatches are high quality.
Why is this important? African dust gets in everywhere! With years of overland experience, we know and use the best products for windows, doors, storage hatches, latches and drawer rails for motorhomes that can withstand bumpy African roads.
